It's a grand and glorious day today – rain gone, winds died down, the sun threatening to peek out in the sky. The used book sale put on by the Friends of the Shepherd Park Library starts today when the library opens at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. If you can't make it today, snag some great used books Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

2,000 or so books, CDs and DVDs – no item costs more than $1, and children's books are 50 cents.

Join the Friends of the Library, even if you can't find any titles to your liking (although I have a hard time believing that). You'll be able to join up on the spot, especially at check-out. Save time by filling out the attachment and bringing it with you.

One piece of advice: Bring cash (we can make change) or your checkbook. We won't be able to handle any electronic transactions until later in the afternoon. Just as you may prefer your books to be on paper, we prefer our currency to be on paper, too!

The library is at 7420 Georgia Ave. NW. See you this weekend!
